I.S.F.D LENGUAS VIVAS BARILOCHE –
PRÁCTICA DOCENTE II
MY FINAL REFLECTION:
One of the things I learned most during
these practice days was that I understood that I am more a student than a
teacher. My students showed me what a great responsibility is to learn while I
am teaching and how fun can be. I think I learned from them that sometimes you
have to let things flow and enjoy them more and let go of the structure a bit
but without leaving the focus of learning. The first classes were a great
challenge because I felt observed and evaluated but then I was taking a more
positive attitude and every time I was enjoying more every activity I did with
the students.
In
this experience as a Primary English teacher I also realised that I have to use more
my body, gestures, face and voice to get children's attention while I am
teaching. Students love when the teacher changes his voice or when he pretends
to be someone else. Sometimes when the teacher gets into the classroom and the
students seem to be bored we can start the class by making some strange
movements or pretending to be another person, we immediately catch their
attention and they laugh about us. Teaching young kids has to be based on
creativity, play and motivation.
So, creating an environment that promote play
interactions and learning is for me the key of Early Years education. Children
can develop a positive attitude to learning and they will be able to apply
their knowledge, skills and understanding in different ways and contexts. I became conscious that children don't learn a new language because they need it, but
because they like it.
Finally, I think that a communicative
approach and group work is definitely what I like most in the classroom and it
is what children enjoy most. They feel happy when they can express something
and they can share it.
A concrete experience I could have it in the class in which we made the puppets and they introduced themselves among them. Although it did not happen as I would have liked, this experience made me think through a concrete observation of my students and has helped me to do more research in my growth as a person and as a teacher and it motivates me a lot to know that I continue to learn from my students to become the teacher I would like to be.
